TIP #3 – High Blood Pressure Guide

The human body is a wonderful amazing system that functions only as well as you maintain it. Sometimes the system malfunctions. High blood pressure is one of those times when the body’s system is not working properly.
What is high blood pressure? High blood pressure (also referred to as hypertension) is when your blood pressure, the force of blood flowing through your blood vessels, is consistently too high.
High pressure (tension) is in the arteries, which are the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body. If you can imagine, arteries that are wide open and clear and free of buildup will allow blood to flow more easily (thus naturally reducing pressure). When blood flows from the heart easily, the heart (our pump) does not have to work as hard to push blood through the body. A heart that does not have to work extremely hard is a heart that will experience less wear and tear and damage.
High blood pressure is often associated with few or no symptoms. Many people refer to high blood pressure as the silent killer because it often has no symptoms. Many people have it for years without knowing it.
Consequences of high blood pressure? High blood pressure can cause the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls to be consistently high enough such that it eventually causes health problems. Health problems resulting from high blood pressure:
- Heart Disease
- Kidney (renal) disease
- Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis)
- Eye damage
- Stroke (brain damage)
High blood pressure is a serious condition and you should always follow the advice of your physician.
